Archaeologists dug up ancient weapons in India
In the Eastern Indian state side of West Bengal, some archaeologists have discovered small stone weapons nearly 15,000-20,000 years old. During excavation held at Murshidabad district, near Bangladesh, stone age artifacts were found. This discovery is considered important as it reveals about the presence of men in the arena which is dated back much earlier than believed. There is enough affirmation of stone age activity in India's upland regions.

Dr Gautam Sengupta, director of the State Archaeology Department told the BBC news channel on 28th March, 2008 about the discovery of weapons and along with them scraps and raw materials were also found. Archaeologists have uncovered weapons from soil layer pertaining to the mid-Pleistocene period. This has affirmed that weapons were made at this place only. The weapons that were discovered were actually small axes.

According to one of the archaeologist, � The history of civilization in this area has gone back by approx. 20,000 years�.

Along with scraps and raw material, some charcoal has also been found in this location yet scientists have to verify about how old the charcoal is.

After the exposition of weapons, Prof SN Rajguru and Dr Bhaskar Deotare ( geo- archaeologists ) sojourned the excavation place and affirmed that the weapons date back to the smaller Stone Age.

According to Dr Sengupta, this discovery was made by chance. He has also stated that he and his whole team were actually digging place for finding some artifacts and evidences related to Sultan Hussein Shah of the Sultanate period. After finding some evidence related to Sultan period, his archaeologists kept on digging to unearth some more artifacts of that period. It was then they found these stone age weapons. Now after this discovery of stone age weapons, archaeologists are planning to search for more ancient human habitations in much wider arenas.

Ancient Greek Arms, Weapons and Armor
One of the most pre-eminent and powerful civilization of earlier times is the Ancient Greek civilization. Ancient Greeks are known to have much efficient, experienced naval and military force. In ancient battle, these forces use sharp weapons for fighting instead of shells and guns. Also known as hoplites, ancient greek soldiers were weaponed and armored men who fought in usually broad daylight using sharp weapons such as spears, double-edged swords, shields etc.

Some significant arms, weapons and armors used in earlier times are :
Hoplite: It as an important ancient armor used by greek war lords. Since ancient Greek soldiers were armored and weaponed men, they were known as hoplites. Having a metal shield for defending, a hoplite directly breaks the weapons of his opposing enemy. A hoplite wore a helmet and also carry a spear and a double-edged sword. A spear of a hoplite was six to eight feet long.

Shield: This is one of the most important greek weapon used by hoplite to collapse spear of an opponent.

Spear: Also known as dory, spear comprises sharp iron spear head on a wooden shaft and a bronze butt. If by chance, spear head breaks off than the butt part of spear can be used as an extra weapon to fight with the enemy.

Ballista: This weapon has the capability to shot multiple arrows at long ranges at a time.

Sword : lso known as dagger, this weapon was mainly used when a spear was completely broken. It consists short blade and the spike which can be fitted onto hand grip.

Catapult: Usually used for attacking, this ancient weapon was used to throw large objects and stones at the opposing army.

Helmet: Worn by greek soldiers, 2 types of helmets were used in earlier ancient imes. One is made up of bronze which covers your whole head apart from eyes and mouth. The other one, also made up of bronze consists flaps to cover the soldier's cheeks and the back of his neck but it doesn't cover face and ears.

Breastplate: This was worn by greek soldiers to cover their back and chest. It is made up of metal bronze.

Leg guards :These weapons are worn by soldiers which cover their legs from the knee down to the ankle.

Bringing many innovations and changes in the warfare technology, ancient greek weapons were always perceived as foremost as compared to weapons of the neighboring countries.

Deadly Ancient Weapons
The ancient weapons were used at desperate times during fight by ancient warriors and different weapons originated from different countries all over the world. Though the Greeks were universally known to be the warriors using all kinds of weapons, there were some of them which were very deadly weapons, not very common to all but used by many. Some of these deadly weapons are as follows:

Hawaiian Throwing Axe
Made up of shark teeth or wood, it is the destructive hand held weapon used for both short and long ranges. This weapon is a very dangerous weapon which has the capability to take men's limbs off and rip open skin. Also, it can be used in direct hand to hand combat.

Triple Morning Star
Also known as mace, this ancient weapon is used by both foot soldiers and Calvary men. This ancient weapon appears from the medieval age that comprise wood or metal shaft with a mounted head of bronze, copper, wood or steel. Also considered as one of the most fierce weapon, it has the capability to break even the heaviest of armor and left combat zone filled with torture and blood.

Hunga Munga
It is a African tribal hand held weapon which consists metal pointed blade with a curved back section and discrete spike near the handle. This is a very versatile king of tool found all throughout Africa, either used in fighting between African tribes or as a tool used in farming or building structures or to fight off evil demons.

Caltrop
This is a deadly weapon made up of two or more sharp spikes or spines usually used to slow down the proceeding of horses, war elephants and human troops. It is designed in a way that one of the spike points upward from a stable base. If by chance any one stepped on it than it causes slow agonizing death.

Throwing Star
Invented by Japanese, this weapon is also named as shuriken which means dagger hidden in a palm. Throwing star is available in varied shapes such as needle like shape or star shape. Star throwing star is thrown with the spin and needle like star is usually thrown like a throwing dagger.

Crossbow Pistol
It is a 17th century hand held pistol which is very cool, powerful and looks like an early kind of pistol. Too hard to reload, this is known for its accuracy and efficiency. Also known as bad ass weapon, this weapon actually tells about the technology and notions which the 17th century had.

Ancient Flame-Thrower
Invented in 10th century by Chinese, metal used in flame thrower is of brass. Mainly used in naval or boat combat, this ancient weapon allows Chinese to easily set enemy ships on fire and sink them on the spot.

Thus, these are some of the brutal, ferocious and primitive ancient weapons used by ancient soldiers, warriors and foot soldiers.

Transformation of ancient weapons into weapons of defence in modern age
Now a days, most of the ancient weapons have become in vogue while some of them are in usages as either collectibles or just souvenirs and remembrances. The ancient weapons have lead the tools to a more detrimental nature, still they all have been regarded as important and some of them have casted history inevitably.

Some of them are swords, knives, longbow, short bow, crossbow, explosive actuated firearms etc. Most recent ancient weapon introduced is the automatic rifle. All of them have altered our history and forever changed the world, initiating from tools to mass destruction ancient weapons.

Still several ancient weapons are in use, like knives are common kitchen hold utensil used for myriad of purposes. Along with this, haplessly these weapons are also used in criminal, violent and outrageous activities. Any individual needs the courage, strength and a little bit of luck in using these modern kind of weapons like hunting knife.

Even now in today's world humankind can wage wars like they had in past centuries. Earlier cross bows, long bows, arrows have evolved into some projectile weapons like slings, blowguns spears and these also have emerged into more modern weapons like clubs, knives etc. These weapons give the chance to an individual to protect themselves, hunt or destroy the enemy from a distance. This all provides us a whole new aspect on the development of ancient weapons and armaments.

Along with these modern ancient weapons like firearms, gunpowder has the wide demand from long time invented by Chinese. The first weapon which takes less power to load is invented in the year 1630 named as flintlock. This weapon stayed popular untill to mid 1800's. After that lot of weapons were discovered which made shooting faster, straighter and easier. In the year 1835, Colt revolvers became popular and afterwards in 1903, Winchester has formulated first ever automatic rifles. This all signifies how ancient weapons of earlier times have transformed themselves into modern age weapons.
